Dozens of Spanish beaches were forced to close

Dozens of Spanish beaches were forced to close yesterday after crowds of people flocked to the beach – as British tourists prepare to descend on the country again.    Nearly 30 Costa del Sol beaches had to turn visitors away at the busiest times of the day on Sunday in resorts including Benalmadena. Even before Covid-19, 2 million people died from zoonotic diseases every year, mostly in poorer countries. The coronavirus outbreak was highly predictable, the experts said. “[Covid-19] may be the worst, but it is not the first,” said the UN environment chief, Inger Andersen. The biggest economic costs fall … Continue reading Dozens of Spanish beaches were forced to close

The re-election of President Trump would be a “danger to the republic”

The re-election of President Trump would be a “danger to the republic” and would have “grave consequences”, his former national security adviser said before the publication today of a damning memoir of 17 months at his side. John Bolton, 71, a lifelong hardline Republican, said he could not vote for Mr Trump but would write in the name of a “true conservative” on his ballot paper in November. He said he hoped that his book was a contribution to a discussion on “what the post-Trump [Republican] party looks like”. An 81-year-old former vicar who married his 27-year-old Romanian toyboy lover has died alone in a Bucharest hospital – as his widow reveals he ‘cried for two days’ but is now ready to enjoy his inheritance.  Philip Clements, a retired Church of England vicar, passed away overnight on May 31 in a hospital room that was closed to visitors amid the coronavirus pandemic. The prospect of a second wave of coronavirus infection across Europe is no longer a distant theory

The prospect of a second wave of coronavirus infection across Europe is no longer a distant theory, according to the director of the EU agency responsible for advising governments – including the UK – on disease control. “The question is when and how big, that is the question in my view,” said Dr Andrea Ammon, director of the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC). Mr Trump on Tuesday said he started taking the medication because “a young man close to me” contracted the virus, appearing to cite a military valet who tested positive recently. Germany has warned of the ‘start of an epidemic’ as Europe scrambles to contain a coronavirus outbreak

Germany has warned of the ‘start of an epidemic’ as Europe scrambles to contain a coronavirus outbreak spreading from Italy across the continent.   Denmark, Switzerland, Romania, North Macedonia and the city of Athens have all confirmed their first virus cases in the last two days – all of them linked to Italy. The injured man on the ground, whose voice is muffled, replies that he came “from Moscow”, and says, “They have my mother.” There was no immediate comment from Polish authorities. The Sweden-based Chechen rights group Vayfond described the attack as an assassination attempt. The centre of the outbreak … Continue reading Germany has warned of the ‘start of an epidemic’ as Europe scrambles to contain a coronavirus outbreak
