Mere days before a key federal programme

Mere days before a key federal programme for the millions of Americans rendered jobless by the coronavirus pandemic expires on Friday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have ratcheted up their combative rhetoric to full volume.

The personal attacks were particularly brutal on Wednesday as the two leaders appeared as far apart as ever from a deal to stimulate the economy, buttress the health care system, and help get American children safely back to school this fall.

The hideaway was said to be under a hut on the allotment being searched by police.

Police today found the cellar and were still searching the foundations of the shack at an allotment tonight.

“I’m running because Trump is the president and I think our democracy’s at stake, for real,” he said when asked why he was seeking election to the White House. “And what seems to be the case, is many Americans, those who don’t like me and those that do, view me as the antithesis of Trump. And I believe that I am.”

Mr Biden said that he thought middle-class workers were getting badly paid and were not happy with the Trump economy before the pandemic.

Last month a former friend of Brueckner reportedly claimed the kidnap suspect told him he had a cellar at a different property which he wanted to line with metal sheets ‘like Josef Fritzl’s’.

Brueckner – who is currently in jail in northern Germany – is suspected of killing Madeleine after she vanished from her Praia da Luz holiday apartment in May 2007, the same year that Brueckner lived at the allotment.

Argentina has started clinical trials on treating Covid-19 using hyperimmune serum developed with antibodies from horses, authorities from the laboratory involved said.

The serum, produced by biotechnology company Inmunova, is obtained by injecting a SARS-CoV-2 protein, which causes the animal to generate a large amount of neutralizing antibodies.
