The far-right terrorist who shot dead 10 people including his mum in a gun rampage in Germany was a deranged racist who ranted about wiping out entire nations.
Tobias Rathjen killed nine people of “migrant backgrounds”, including five Turkish nationals, and injured six more in Hanau, near Frankfurt, on Wednesday night.
Today the “biometric mass surveillance” cameras were switched on cameras at Oxford Circus.
Last month Nick Ephgrave, assistant commissioner, described them as a “fantastic crime fighting tool” which would help the force to catch the most serious and violent offenders.
He is then thought to have fled to his parents’ house just around the corner from the second murder scene where he shot his 72-year-old mother dead in front of his father, then turned the gun on himself. Police discovered his body in a raid on the apartment around 3am.
Bilal Gokce, Sedat Gurbuz, Agrı Eleskirtli and Bulgarian citizen Kolayan Velkov, 32, were also named by Turkish media as being among the victims.
“If people are silent for long enough, then things like this will happen,” said Mehmet Daimagüler, a lawyer for victims of far-right terrorism. “You could have set the clock by this attack. People tell us they have learnt from Auschwitz, but this shows that sort of talk is just ‘blah, blah’.”
Federal prosecutors said they would be taking charge of the investigation, as is normal practice when the state is considered to be endangered by a crime. Investigators aim to establish whether he acted alone or received support from any individuals or groups.

However, the company also has resorts in Atlantic City and Detroit.
